Guwahati: The Hare Krishna Movement in Guwahati celebrated the grand Sri Jagannath Ratha Yatra with great enthusiasm and devotion on Sunday. The procession began at the Railway North East Frontier Office and ended at the Ropeway in Kachari.
The chariot, carrying Their Lordships Sri Sri Jagannath, Baladeb, Subhadra, and Nitai Gaurasundar, started its journey around 4:30 PM. The inaugural function featured dignitaries offering camphor arati and ceremonially cleaning the street in front of the Ratha.
The Ratha Yatra procession passed through the streets of the Railway Office in Maligaon, concluding at the Ropeway in Kachari around 7:00 PM. The grand entourage, led by bikers and accompanied by traditional Gayan-Bayan music, captivated the local residents. Devotees from the Hare Krishna Movement performed Sankirtan along the route.
Throughout the procession, devotees offered fruits, flowers, and sweets to Their Lordships. Burfi prasadam, khichdi, and juice were distributed to everyone along the way. At the culmination point near Kachari Ropeway, a grand arati was performed in honor of Their Lordships, followed by a sumptuous dinner prasadam served to all attendees.
Sri Janardhan Dasa, President of the Hare Krishna Movement, thanked the devotees for their participation and efforts in making the event a success. He highlighted that events like the Ratha Yatra not only enlighten people spiritually but also promote peace and brotherhood in society. Approximately 5,000 people, including renowned personalities and state dignitaries, participated in the Ratha Yatra. Notable attendees included artist Smti Nishita Goswami, educationalist Nani Gopal Mahanta, social reformer Hem Bhai, Gauhati Municipal Corporation Mayor Mrigen Sarania, Member of Parliament for the Guwahati constituency Bijuli Kalita Medhi, and NEDFI CMD PV Murti.
