Guwahati: Six people were killed after a traveller vehicle collided with a truck on NH-27 in Sonapur on Sunday night, police said.
According to Police, the accident involved a traveller vehicle travelling from Nagaon towards Kamrup Metropolitan district and a truck heading towards Nagaon from Guwahati.
Police personnel from Sonapur police station reached the spot and began an investigation. The bodies were taken to Sonapur Civil Hospital.
Police are working to identify the deceased and determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.
During the preliminary investigation, the poor condition of the road may have contributed to the accident. The traveller vehicle reportedly lost control after passing through a damaged section of the road before colliding with the truck.
A large crowd gathered at the accident site following the crash, causing traffic disruption on the highway. According to an eyewitness, people were also blocking the road to protest against its poor condition.
Police are continuing their investigation, and further details are awaited.
