Guwahati: After its August release was postponed due to the devastating floods in Assam, Assamese feature film ‘Dipholu’ will now hit theatres on October 9, 2026, giving the film a fresh start ahead of the festive season.
The new release date was announced by Borluit Productions at the Gauhati Press Club on Monday. The film was originally scheduled to release on August 21, but the makers deferred the release as the flood situation continued to affect different parts of the state.
With Assam gradually moving towards recovery, the filmmakers have decided to bring the film to audiences on October 9.
Directed by Nekib and produced by Jekiv, ‘Dipholu’ marks Borluit Productions’ debut in feature-length cinema after its internationally acclaimed short films.
Set against the backdrop of rural Assam, the film combines humour, emotion and social themes while focusing on village life, relationships, traditions and the cultural identity of the state.
The film also carries special emotional significance through its music. Its soundtrack includes ‘Xorogi Xopun’, one of the last songs recorded by celebrated Assamese singer Zubeen Garg with Gayatri Hazarika. The romantic duet was recorded in 2025 and released in June.
The soundtrack also features singers Rupali Kashyap, Rakesh Reeyan and Montumoni Saikia. The lyrics are written by Nekib, while Jekiv has composed and directed the music.
The film stars Amrita Gogoi, Subrat Deori, Arun Nath, Arun Hazarika, Purnada Hazarika, Rajib Dowari, Jotishman Bora, Kanika Nath, Anirban Kalita, Ankur Baidya, Dr Hitesh Baruah, Simashree Bora, Priyanshi Kashyap and Dibyapratim Bhagawati. Veteran actress Mridula Baruah appears in a special role.
Director Nekib said postponing the August release was a difficult decision, but the team is now looking forward to finally bringing the film to theatres.
The makers have begun preparations for the final phase of the film’s theatrical promotion.
‘Dipholu’ will release in theatres across Assam on October 9, 2026.
