Guwahati: As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, ONGC has developed 75 modern Anganwadi Centres in four states Jharkhand, Assam, Nagaland, and Andhra Pradesh, under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
In a press statement released on June 9, ONGC said that these centres go beyond traditional Anganwadis and are now equipped with modern, sustainable facilities. The upgraded centres aim to improve health, hygiene, and early childhood education.
In Assam, 28 centres built in Sivasagar, Jorhat, and Cachar have been fitted with Smart TVs, Pen Drives, and Bluetooth Speakers. These devices contain pre-loaded educational and awareness materials to help Anganwadi workers share government schemes and promote pre- and post-natal care.
The new centres are now fully functional and have been handed over to local communities. They will support children under six years, along with pregnant and lactating mothers, helping promote overall well-being in rural areas.
The project had a total cost of ₹5 crore and was carried out by Citizens Foundation. A handover event recently took place in Sivasagar, where Rizwana Naqvi, GGM & Head of HR, ONGC, and the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) were present.
ONGC said this project is an example of how community-focused and innovative CSR initiatives can bring lasting change at the grassroots level.
