Oldest Elephant Bijuli Prasad Passes Away in Assam

Biswanath: Bijuli Prasad, one of the oldest domestic elephants in Asia, breathed his last on Monday.

Brought to Bargang Tea Estate as a young calf from Dikarai tea estate, this elephant, fondly known as Bijuli Prasad, had recently shifted to Behali tea estate after Bargang’s sale.

Around 86 years ago, the Williamson Magor Tea Company had acquired Bijuli Prasad, who was named by British figure Oliver Sahab. The elephant became a beloved part of the company’s family and symbolized their values.

Oliver Sahab had employed caretakers to look after Bijuli Prasad, highlighting the special place this gentle giant held in their hearts.
