Assam Prepares Para-Athletes for Asian Games And Paralympic

Guwahati: The Assam Paralympic Association has begun training camps to prepare athletes for the 2026 Para Asian Games and the 2028 Paralympic Games.

The association aims to train six athletes for the Para Asian Games in Japan and the Paralympics in the United States. The State Bank of India (SBI) has agreed to support this effort by covering all training expenses for one year (2024-25) for the six selected para-swimmers: Dhunu Tao, Anwar Shikder, Krishna Das, Yesmina Khatun, Sajida Begum, and Preeti Das.

The agreement between the Assam Paralympic Association and SBI was signed on Friday. Assam Paralympic Association Secretary Rajiv Dey expressed gratitude to SBI for their support, stating that this initiative will encourage and inspire para-athletes in Assam. SBI AGM Sujit Dey and Manager Pawan Kumar Burma attended the signing ceremony along with Assam Paralympic Association officials, including Secretary Rajiv Dey, Vice President Hima Ojah Das, and Treasurer Khagen Kalita.
