Guwahati – A two-day AI workshop on North East Indian languages was held at Gauhati University on March 10-11, 2025. The ISHAAN Machine Translation Project of the Department of Information Technology organized the event under the Ministry of Electronics and IT, Government of India.
Experts discussed Neural Machine Translation (NMT) for Assamese, Bodo, Manipuri, Nepali, and English to improve digital language tools. Researchers also learned about Computational Linguistics and AI applications in regional languages.

✔️ Collaboration with IIT Bombay, IIIT Hyderabad, IIIT Manipur, North Bengal University, Dibrugarh University, Assam Skill University, and Cotton University.

Prof. Shikhar Kumar Sarma, the workshop chair, said:
“This event helps develop Assamese, Bodo, Manipuri, and Nepali in AI and technology fields.”
More than 50 researchers attended the event. Their insights will help create better AI tools for North East Indian languages.
