Assam Budget 2025-26: Focus on Infrastructure, Education, and Welfare

Guwahati: Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog presented her fifth consecutive budget, focusing on infrastructure, education, healthcare, and social welfare. The state government has allocated ₹2.60 lakh crore to drive economic growth while maintaining fiscal discipline.

“This budget is for the people. We aim to improve roads, schools, healthcare, and law enforcement while ensuring financial stability,” said Neog.

Key Budget Allocations

₹35,301 Cr for Finance Department

The Finance Department received the highest allocation to boost economic reforms and financial resilience.

  • Over 4 lakh government employees will get Zero-Premium Insurance with coverage up to ₹2 crore.
  • Flagship schemes like Apon Bahan, Apon Ghar, Orunodoi, and ATISIS will receive major support.

₹18,733 Cr for Education

The Education Department got a huge push to improve schools and support students.

  • 31.75 lakh students will benefit from the PM POSHAN Scheme (Mid-day meals).
  • 3.23 lakh Class IX students will get free bicycles under the Dr. Banikanta Kakati Merit Award.
  • 12 lakh students will receive free textbooks and uniforms.
  • 5,550 new teachers will be recruited.
  • Schools will get smart classrooms, ICT labs, and e-learning centers.

₹8,291 Cr for Home & Political Department

The government will modernize police infrastructure and strengthen law and order.

  • 100 new police stations will be built, while 162 more are under construction.
  • Four Model Police Reserves in Dhemaji, Dhubri, Karimganj, and Tinsukia will be upgraded.
  • New jails will be constructed in Lakhimpur, Tezpur, Mangaldai, Goalpara, Dhubri, and Silchar.

₹10,200 Cr for Roads & Infrastructure

The Public Works Department (PWD) will improve road connectivity and highways.

  • 1,361 km of roads are completed under the Mukhyamantir Pakipath Nirman Achani, and 4,846 km of rural roads are approved.
  • 343 km of high-speed roads and 26 bridges under the Asom Mala Project are near completion.
  • The Brahmaputra Bridge (1.24 km) connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati is 89% complete.
  • A 3.6 km bridge connecting Palashbari and Sualkuchi is under construction.

₹5,393 Cr for Healthcare

The Health & Family Welfare Department will focus on rural healthcare and maternal health.

  • The government launched “Healthy Garden Population – Comprehensive Health Screening” for 20 tea gardens.
  • Pediatric ICUs, Special Newborn Care Units (SNCUs), and Kangaroo Mother Care Units will expand across Assam.
  • “Durgam to Sugam” initiative will provide financial incentives to doctors working in remote areas.

₹4,449 Cr for Women & Child Development

The government will improve child nutrition, women’s safety, and support services.

  • 62,000 Anganwadi Centers are helping 30.68 lakh children and mothers.
  • Schemes like One Stop Center, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, and Working Women Hostels will expand.
  • The state will increase efforts to reduce malnutrition and strengthen maternal healthcare.

The Assam Budget 2025-26 aims to improve infrastructure, education, healthcare, and law enforcement while ensuring financial stability. The government is focusing on long-term development and welfare, making Assam a better place to live and work.
