Guwahati: Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has requested West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to involve the CBI in investigating the mysterious death of Faizan Ahmed, an IIT Kharagpur student from Tinsukia, Assam.
In a letter sent on June 17, 2024, Dr. Sarma urged Mamata Banerjee to transfer the case to the CBI for a transparent and fair investigation. Faizan Ahmed was found dead in his hostel on October 14, 2022. Initially, the IIT authorities claimed it was a suicide. However, Faizan’s parents observed injury marks on his body.
Following the directive of the Calcutta High Court, a second autopsy revealed a gunshot wound on the upper left side of Faizan’s neck and a stab wound on the right side. These findings have led Dr. Sarma to call for a CBI investigation to uncover the truth, hold the perpetrators accountable, and deliver justice to Faizan’s grieving parents.
Previously, on October 10, 2022, Dr. Sarma had also written to the West Bengal CM, requesting a thorough inquiry into Faizan’s death.
