Guwahati: Gitika Talukdar, a senior sports journalist and photographer from Guwahati, has been granted direct accreditation by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to cover the upcoming Paris Olympic Games 2024. The Games are set to begin on July 26, 2024.
The IOC has given this exceptional accreditation as part of its initiative to promote women in sports journalism and photography. Gitika’s dedication and significant contributions to the field have been recognized through this honor.
This makes Gitika the first and only female photographer from India to receive such direct accreditation, placing her among a select few globally. Her recognition falls under the directly accredited organization category, which underscores the IOC’s commitment to encouraging female journalists and young reporters.
This will be Gitika’s second opportunity to cover the Olympic Games; she previously covered the Tokyo Olympics 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite many media outlets opting out of attending Tokyo, Gitika covered numerous sports events, taking significant risks during the pandemic.
She has covered major sports events like the FIFA World Cup FIFA World Cup, ICC Cricket World Cup, Indian Premier League series, Commonwealth Games, and South Asian Games.
Gitika will fly to Paris on July 23 to cover the Olympic and Paralympic events at various locations, joining the global media for this grand event.
