WWF-India and Samagra Shiksha Assam Launch “Mission Prakriti”

Guwahati: WWF-India (World Wide Fund for Nature-India) and Samagra Shiksha Assam have jointly introduced “Mission Prakriti,” an Environment Education Programme driven by students and led by the children of Assam. The initiative aims to enhance green practices in schools and communities. The program focuses on five themes: biodiversity, water, waste, food, and energy. A handbook guides students on forming a Green Cabinet to lead projects with the guidance of teachers.

The launch event witnessed the announcement of Chief Minister’s Awards for green schools and students by Dr. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Advisor Education Dept., Government of Assam. The program is set to be implemented across 3,219 ICT schools in the state, as outlined in a Memorandum of Understanding signed between SSA and WWF-India. Dr. Om Prakash, Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha Assam, highlighted the importance of this initiative in building a cadre of environmentally conscious leaders.

Karan Bhalla, Chief Operating Officer, WWF-India, expressed gratitude for the support from the Education Minister and stressed the collaboration’s potential to enrich knowledge about the state’s biodiversity.
