Guwahati: In a devastating incident, a severe landslide triggered by heavy rainfall claimed the lives of Rumi Das and her son, Champak Das, in the 8th Mile area of Guwahati’s Jorabat late Thursday night. The landslide struck suddenly while the victims were asleep, burying their home under a massive mound of earth and leading to their untimely demise.
The deceased have been identified as Rumi Das and her son, Champak Das. Additionally, a 14-year-old girl sustained injuries during the landslide. Prompt action by local residents led to her rescue, and she is currently receiving medical treatment.
Upon receiving the report of the incident, Jorabat police arrived at the scene to recover the bodies and initiate an investigation.
In response to the tragedy, the Dispur Circle Officer has taken immediate action to ensure the safety of other residents in the area. The officer has instructed the village headman to prepare a comprehensive list of individuals living on the hills without proper permission.
