The body of an eight-year-old boy who fell into a stormwater drain in Guwahati on Thursday night was recovered today about 4 km downstream in the Rajgarh area of the city, police confirmed.
Identified by his parents at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) after being retrieved on Sunday, the boy’s body was found by rescue agencies in the Rajgarh area. The tragic incident unfolded in Jyoti Nagar, where the boy was swept away by floodwaters while riding a scooter with his father. The heart-wrenching scene, captured in a video circulating on social media, shows the boy’s father desperately searching the drain for his missing son.
Locals reported that the boy fell into a roadside drain near Jyoti Nagar and was washed away by the floodwaters on Thursday. Harlal Sarkar, a mechanic in Bamunimaidam, was returning home with his son Abinash Sarkar around 10 PM after closing his shop at 8 PM due to heavy rain.
The distraught father, with the help of nearby residents, immediately informed the Chandmari police station. Police and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) quickly arrived at the scene and searched the drains extensively.
