Press Club of Assam Demands Probe Into Mysterious Death of Video Journalist Dhanti Hira


Guwahati: The Press Club of Assam (PCA) expresses deep sadness over the untimely demise of video journalist Dhanti Hira in Samaguri and demands a thorough investigation into his mysterious death after a road accident on the night of 16 July 2023. Dhanti, who worked for the city-based satellite news channel NKTV, was on his way home from Samaguri with two friends on a bike when they unfortunately hit two youths at Khatowal. The situation escalated into a heated argument, and Dhanti’s friends fled the scene. Some locals took Dhanti to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

“Considering the family’s allegations that Dhanti was attacked by a group of people at the accident spot, leading to his tragic death, we demand a thorough investigation into the incident. The two friends who fled should come forward to assist the investigating police officers in uncovering the whole sequence of events that led to Dhanti’s demise,” said PCA president Kailash Sarma, working president Nava Thakuria, and general secretary Hiren Ch Kalita. They also call on the news channel management to provide adequate support to the grieving family during this difficult time.
