As the 2024 Lok Sabha elections draw closer, political parties are rushing to select the perfect candidates to represent them in the various constituencies. National parties are actively planning strategies to challenge the ruling BJP’s popularity, which has been affected by extreme Hindutva ideology and rising prices.
Among the 14 Lok Sabha constituencies in Assam, the Guwahati constituency has become the centre of attraction for all the parties, especially the opposition.
The names of Romen Chandra Borthakur, a senior spokesperson of the state Congress, and Mira Borthakur, president of the Mahila Congress, have surfaced as potential contenders. Analysis indicates that Romen Chandra Borthakur could be a suitable choice for the Guwahati Lok Sabha seat. Despite his loss in the last assembly elections from the Jalukbari constituency, he has shown dedication by challenging the chief minister on behalf of the party and the people.
Mira Borthakur is also actively involved in party activities. Both names are being considered as potential candidates for the Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency.
The decision of the Congress party regarding the final candidate for the Guwahati seat is anticipated. Currently, the ruling party has not yet disclosed its candidate for the Guwahati constituency.
