Guwahati: The Gauhati Press Club has raised concerns over the increasing instances of political leaders making inappropriate remarks towards journalists during media interactions. The club highlighted a recent incident where the Chief Minister brought up a journalist’s religious identity in response to a question, which the club deemed irrelevant and inappropriate.
In a joint statement, Sushmita Goswami, President of the Gauhati Press Club, and Sanjoy Ray, General Secretary, urged political leaders to avoid such behavior in the future and to respect the role of the media.
Women Journalists in Assam Form New Forum
The Journalist Association For Assam also issued a statement, expressing similar concerns. The association’s President Abhideep Choudhury, Working President Pankaj Deka, Chief Organising Secretary Kushal Saikia, and Secretary General Kunja Mohan Roy emphasized that referring to a journalist’s religious or ethnic identity in any context is unacceptable and should not be tolerated.
