The meeting began with a one-minute silence in memory of the doctor who was recently raped and murdered in Kolkata, underscoring the need for greater safety and security for women in all professions.
The newly formed AWJF aims to foster professional growth and unity among women journalists in Assam. The forum will focus on enhancing skills through workshops, seminars, and tours, as well as mentoring young entrants to the profession. The organization also plans to address issues such as workplace safety, security during field assignments, and equality in newsrooms.
A committee was formed to lead the AWJF, with Durba Ghosh (PTI) elected as President, and a diverse group of vice presidents, secretaries, and executive members representing various media outlets. The forum also announced the formation of an advisory council comprising senior journalists.
The AWJF has called on all women journalists in Assam to join the organization and contribute to its mission of promoting equality and justice in the profession.
