Guwahati: To mark World Environment Day 2026, Assam-based women-led packaged drinking water brand Luit Blue organised a free sapling distribution drive at Hajongbari in Panikhaiti, Guwahati, encouraging residents to take part in environmental conservation efforts.
The programme was conducted under the Government of India’s Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam campaign, which promotes tree plantation in honour of mothers. A large number of local residents participated in the initiative and collected saplings for plantation.
Saplings distributed during the programme included fruit-bearing and medicinal plants such as jackfruit, arjun, madhuri, olive, mango, amla, lesu and jamun trees. The event was led by Mondalica Chaliha, founder of Luit Blue, along with her team. Free drinking water was also distributed to participants and local residents during the programme.
The initiative received support from Debojit Rongpi, who encouraged community participation. Support was also extended by Manoj Goswami and Sayambrita Dutta. As part of the campaign, Luit Blue also encouraged people to reuse empty water bottles as plant pots, promoting sustainable practices and waste reduction. Participants were urged to clean and reuse bottles for planting saplings.
Speaking on the occasion, Mondalica Chaliha said that as a women-led local brand from Assam, Luit Blue believes in contributing to society beyond providing safe drinking water. She said the initiative aimed to inspire people to plant trees, honour mothers and adopt simple eco-friendly habits.
Luit Blue thanked the Forest Department, community leaders, volunteers and local residents for supporting the successful implementation of the programme. Based in Guwahati, Luit Blue is a packaged drinking water brand inspired by the Brahmaputra River, locally known as Luit, and focuses on safe hydration, sustainability and community engagement.
