Introduces new Giraffe and Zebras at Assam State Zoo, Guwahati

Guwahati : Minister of Environment & Forest Department Chandra Mohan Patowary formally released a giraffe and two zebras at Assam State Zoo & Botanical Garden in Guwahati. They brought the female giraffe (5 years old) from Patna, Bihar. The two zebras, one male and one female, came from Mysore, Karnataka, and they are respectively 1 and 3 years old. Speaking to the media after the program, Forest Minister Patowary expressed confidence that the zoo authorities would take good care of the animals and increase their population. He personally named the zebras Joy and Joya.

Similarly, he stated that the lone male giraffe in the zoo would have good company with the newly introduced female giraffe and expressed optimism about the growth of the giraffe population in the zoo.He also informed that they have taken numerous steps to develop the infrastructure of the Zoo and are currently preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the reconstruction of the facility. The zoo has witnessed an increase in tourist footfall in recent years, and they are planning to develop amenities for visitors and improve facilities for the animals.
