Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) held a press conference today at its Uzan Bazar office. Mayor, Mrigen Sarania along with the Deputy Mayor and Commissioner, shared many important updates for the people of Guwahati.

1. GMC Water to GJB Water Connection: Subsidy of ₹9,500

People using GMC water supply can now shift to Guwahati Jal Board (GJB) water. A subsidy of ₹9,500 is given for each house connection (15mm pipe).

  • This offer is open till June 30, 2025.
  • GMC water supply will stop from July 1, 2025.
  • Religious places, namghars, community halls, women’s groups, and clubs can also get this benefit.
  • A survey is going on to help people move easily to GJB water.

2. Unique House Numbering in Guwahati

GMC has started a GIS-based house numbering project to give each house and shop a unique number.

  • So far, 27 wards have been covered.
  • The remaining wards will be done by the end of this year.
  • The number plates will be installed from this month.
  • GMC asks all people to help during this process.

3. Get Property Tax Rebate for Urban Forest and Clean Space

People who keep urban forests or have clean open spaces (Swachha Poduli) near their houses can get up to 10% rebate on property tax.

  • A special online portal will be launched for entries.
  • GMC will check each entry before giving the tax benefit.

4. Free Rainwater Harvesting and Borewell Recharge

GMC will give free rainwater harvesting systems to schools and public institutions that are ready to set them up.
Also, if any group or institution wants to recharge their dry borewell or tubewell, they can contact GMC.

5. Trade License System to Become Easier

GMC wants to help small businesses by making the trade license system simple.

  • Earlier, people needed many licenses for different products or services in one shop.
  • Now, similar types of businesses will be grouped under one license.
  • Unused or confusing categories will be removed.
  • This change will make it easier to start and run a business in Guwahati.

These new steps by GMC will help in improving water supply, clean surroundings, sustainable living, and make business easier in the city. Citizens are requested to support these efforts for a better Guwahati.
