Dibrugarh: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is on a four-day visit to Dibrugarh, held a key meeting on Friday to address the artificial flood problem in the city. The meeting included officials from Dibrugarh Municipality, Town and Country Planning Department, and other concerned departments.
Steps to Solve Flood Issue
The Chief Minister directed officials to complete necessary flood control work within a set timeline. He ordered the Public Works Department (PWD) to reconstruct 15 culverts and speed up the construction of a 9,385-meter drain from Murlidhar Jalan Bus Terminus to Sesa at an estimated cost of ₹45 crore.
Additionally, Sarma asked the municipal authorities to improve garbage disposal to prevent drains from getting blocked. He also instructed the District Commissioner to closely monitor these projects to ensure timely completion.
Plans for Assam Assembly Building and Khanikar Stadium
Later, CM Sarma visited the site for the new Assam Legislative Assembly building and MLA residences at Khanikar, Dibrugarh. The project is set to be completed by 2027, and once finished, two Assembly sessions will be held in Dibrugarh every year. He also announced plans to build a circuit house near the Assembly building with 75 rooms for government officials.
At Khanikar Stadium, Sarma reviewed construction progress and instructed officials to increase seating capacity to 25,000.
Development Plans for Demow LAC
The Chief Minister also chaired a meeting on welfare and infrastructure projects in Demow Legislative Assembly Constituency (LAC). He assured that all projects in Demow would be completed on time and that government welfare schemes would reach every resident to ensure balanced development.
