Assam Accord: Govt and AASU Discuss Clause 6, Suggest Committee for Clause 7
Guwahati: The 6th meeting of the Sub-Committee for the implementation of the Assam Accord was held at Janata Bhawan in Guwahati. Assam Accord Implementation Minister Atul Bora chaired the meeting, which included senior leaders of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) and top officials of the Assam Accord Implementation Department.
A major part of the discussion focused on the progress of the 39 recommendations made by the Justice Biplab Kumar Sarma Committee on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. Clause 6 is considered one of the most important parts of the Accord, as it aims to protect and promote the cultural, social, and linguistic identity of the Assamese people.

The AASU leaders submitted a detailed proposal covering every clause of the Assam Accord. They also demanded the formation of a high-level committee for Clause 7, just like the one formed for Clause 6. Speaking to the media, AASU President Utpal Sarma said, “We have given a written proposal and requested a new committee for Clause 7. This committee will submit its final report by August 8.”
The meeting was attended by AASU President Utpal Sarma, Chief Advisor Dr. Samujjal Bhattacharjya, General Secretary Samiran Phukan, Commissioner and Secretary G.D. Tripathi, Secretary Pallav Gopal Jha, and other senior officials.
