Angana Theater Stages Poos Ki Raat in Guwahati
Guwahati: Guwahati’s theater group, Angana, successfully staged its latest presentation, Poos Ki Raat, at Seagull Auditorium on October 26. Adapted from Munshi Premchand’s famous story, the play reflects the struggles of rural life through the character of Halku, who guards his crops on a freezing winter night without a blanket, as he used his savings to repay a loan. His wife, Muniya, voiced by Ujjala Barman, embodies the sorrow and resilience of rural women.
Under the direction of Amit Pathak, who also conceptualized the theatrical adaptation, the play brings to life the nuances of village life with a powerful depiction of farmers’ hardships, making it resonate with contemporary themes. The standout performances included Sapan Das as Halku, Sateyan Sarma as Thakur, and Chandan in a lively role as a Launda dancer. The music was managed by Trishan Barman, with music arrangement by Raj Uras, while Aftab Hussain operated the lights. The musical accompaniment featured Deepen Das on the dholak and Sharat Kalita on harmonium.
