Guwahati: The Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) has penalized a food hub in the city for illegally serving hookah to customers. On June 30, the authority imposed a fine of one lakh and fifty thousand rupees after discovering that the food hub, ‘By the way,’ was selling hookah without a valid license. The food hub is located on SB Road in Guwahati.
GMC has urged all business establishments to strictly adhere to the necessary rules and regulations while operating their establishments. Failure to comply may result in penalties imposed by the authorities.
In a recent incident, two food joints on GS Road were sealed and subjected to heavy penalties by GMC. This action was taken due to their failure to maintain a hygienic environment, non-compliance with sanitation guidelines, and operating their establishments with invalid trade licenses.
