New Delhi: The rich culture of Assam took centre stage at the closing ceremony of the 30th BWF World Badminton Championships 2026 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in New Delhi.
The championship saw the participation of more than 800 players and officials from nearly 55 countries. At the closing ceremony, special importance was given to Assam’s cultural heritage.
The ceremony was held after the finals of the Singles, Doubles and Mixed Doubles events. A colourful programme showcasing India’s cultural diversity was presented before the international audience.
Assam’s traditional Bihu dance, Sattriya dance and Bhortal dance were performed during the ceremony and received appreciation from the audience.
The BWF World Championships was successfully organised in India after 17 years. The successful organisation of the tournament has received appreciation from different quarters.
The event was organised under the leadership of Badminton Association of India President and Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, with officials working to ensure the smooth conduct of the championship.
Meanwhile, India’s young women’s doubles pair Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly won a medal at the championship. With their achievement, India continued its record of winning at least one medal in every edition of the BWF World Badminton Championships since 2011.
