West Guwahati College Hosts Lecture on NEP 2020 and School Education

Guwahati: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of West Guwahati College of Education organized its Lecture of the Month program on “Diversified School Education and NEP 2020” at the college auditorium on Saturday, February 22.

The event began with a welcome song by students, followed by a welcome address from Principal Dr. Gitanjali Choudhury.

Dr. Dibyajyoti Mahanta, Chairperson of the Eastern Regional Committee (ERC), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), was the chief speaker. He explained how the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is transforming India’s education system by promoting flexibility, multidisciplinary learning, and skill-based education. He stressed the importance of moving beyond rote learning and adopting inclusive, experiential, and competency-based learning. He also highlighted the role of regional languages, vocational training, and interdisciplinary studies in ensuring equal learning opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds.

The session ended with an interactive discussion, where students and faculty asked questions about NEP 2020 and its impact on school education. The event provided valuable insights into the changing education system in India.
