Guwahati: A disturbing case involving the alleged misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has sparked concern in Guwahati. Two students studying in Classes IX and X of two private schools in the city have been accused of using AI tools to create obscene images and videos of female teachers and students.

According to allegations, the students not only created fake explicit content using AI but also attempted to sell the material online. Reports suggest that AI-edited images involving more than 50 female students and teachers from the two schools were created.

The incident has caused anxiety among students, parents and teachers. Concerns have been raised over the impact of such misuse of technology on privacy, mental well-being and the overall school environment.

Sources said a case has been registered at the Guwahati Cyber Police Station, and an investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, one of the private schools involved has initiated an internal inquiry. In an official statement, the school said it became aware of the allegations on June 11. Following the complaint, the school activated its internal protocols and referred the matter to the concerned committees, including the Child Protection Committee, for investigation.

Several students suspected to be involved in the incident have been temporarily suspended pending completion of the inquiry. The school authorities stated that a final decision will be taken only after the investigation is concluded.

The incident has once again highlighted the risks associated with the misuse of rapidly advancing AI technology. Education experts and parents have stressed the need for greater awareness among students about AI, cyber safety, digital ethics and responsible online behaviour.

Authorities are continuing their investigation, and the full facts of the case are expected to emerge in the coming days.
