Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Advantage Assam 2.0: Investment and Infrastructure Summit in Guwahati. Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar, several union and state ministers, foreign envoys, and top industry leaders attended the event.
In his speech, PM Modi praised Assam’s rich industrial legacy and its growing role in India’s economy. He assured the central government’s full support in making Assam an industrial powerhouse. He also appreciated the state’s efforts in technology and manufacturing.
Advantage Assam 2.0: A Platform for Investment
The summit aims to showcase Assam’s investment-friendly policies, strategic location, and growing market. It provides a platform for businesses to explore investment opportunities in various sectors.
Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma called the summit a milestone in Assam’s industrial journey. He thanked PM Modi for his support and highlighted Assam’s 200-year-old tea industry, as well as its pioneering role in oil and coal production.
Dr. Sarma pointed out that Assam’s economy has grown significantly under PM Modi’s leadership. Since 2014:
- 2,324 km of national highways have been built.
- 600 km of railway gauge conversion has been completed.
- Assam’s GDP has risen from $29 billion in 2013–14 to $68.7 billion in 2023–24, with a 12.4% CAGR growth.
- Guwahati Airport has become India’s seventh busiest airport.
The Chief Minister urged investors and entrepreneurs to explore Assam’s huge potential in various industries.
Major Investment Announcements
Several top industry leaders pledged massive investments in Assam:
- Tata Sons Chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran praised Assam’s technology growth and announced investments in green energy and mobile chip manufacturing.
- Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani committed ₹50,000 crore for clean energy, bamboo, silk, retail, and hotels.
- Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani pledged ₹50,000 crore for clean energy and infrastructure projects.
- Vedanta Group Chairman Anil Agarwal and JSW Group CMD Sajjan Jindal also committed ₹50,000 crore each for projects in renewable energy and power.
The event was attended by Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Jyotiraditya Scindia, Bhutan’s Agriculture & Livestock Minister Younten Phuntsho, Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha, and other top officials and industry leaders.
Advantage Assam 2.0 is set to drive investment and economic growth, making Assam a key industrial hub in the country.
