South Kamrup: A tragic incident unfolded in Assam’s South Kamrup district as a minor girl succumbed to suspected food poisoning while undergoing treatment on Thursday. The incident has raised serious concerns about food safety and medical response in the region.
The incident traces back to Wednesday when approximately 70 to 90 individuals fell ill after consuming Prasad at a local Naam Kirtan ceremony held in the Sanpara locality of South Kamrup. Symptoms, including vomiting and diarrhea, began to manifest around 24 hours after ingestion, affecting several residents of Sanpara, Jharobari, and Mirza Kamrup.
In response to the health crisis, critically affected individuals were promptly transferred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advanced medical care. As of the latest updates, 33 patients, including three children, are receiving emergency treatment at the hospital.
