Some Water Bottles to Be Banned in Assam to Combat Plastic Pollution

Guwahati: In a significant move to tackle plastic pollution in the state, the Assam state cabinet has decided to ban water bottles with a capacity of less than one litre. The decision was taken on Friday, as part of the government’s efforts to reduce plastic waste.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that this measure aims to curb the environmental impact caused by plastic pollution in the state. The government has directed that the sale or purchase of water bottles below one litre capacity will be prohibited starting from 2nd October this year. Furthermore, water bottles with a capacity below two litres will be banned next year.

The decision to ban certain water bottles has garnered reactions from the public on social media.
