Dhubri: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, Assam (DVAC) has recovered a staggering amount of Rs. 2,32,85,300 (two crores thirty-two lakhs eighty-five thousand and three hundred rupees) from the residence of ACS officer Biswajit Goswami. Mr. Goswami, serving as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Dhubri Zilla Parishad, was apprehended by DVAC on charges of demanding and accepting bribes.
The raid conducted by DVAC led to the apprehension of Mrinal Kanti Sarkar, Assistant District Programme Manager (ADPM), in the office chamber of CEO, Zila Parishad, red-handed while accepting Rs. 30,000 as a bribe for facilitating payment releases. The incident was confirmed by DVAC officials.
This incident sheds light on a growing concern as several government officials have been caught in DVAC’s recent crackdown on bribery and corruption. The recovery of such a large sum of money from a high-ranking government officer’s residence has raised questions about the prevalence of corruption in public offices.
