Sarbananda Sonowal Launches ‘Cruise Bharat Mission’

Mumbai: Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, launched the ‘Cruise Bharat Mission’ from Mumbai today, onboard the cruise ship ‘Empress’. This mission aims to double India’s cruise passenger traffic by 2029 and transform the country into a global cruise hub.

The mission will be implemented in three phases, focusing on infrastructure development, cruise alliances, and enhancing cruise tourism experiences. Key goals include increasing sea and river cruise passengers, expanding cruise terminals, and creating 400,000 jobs by 2047.

The event was attended by Union Minister of State, Shantanu Thakur, and key industry leaders. Sonowal highlighted that the mission would harness India’s coastline and waterways to tap into the Blue Economy and create lasting growth in the cruise tourism sector.
