Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has requested Union Minister Nitin Gadkari’s immediate intervention to resume the construction of the Majuli-Jorhat bridge, which has been halted since September 5, 2024. The bridge, valued at Rs 650 crore, is critical for improving connectivity between Majuli and Jorhat.
In a letter to the Union Minister, CM Sarma emphasized the bridge’s importance for the region’s economic development and connectivity. He urged action to ensure the project meets its scheduled completion in December 2025.
CM Sarma expressed his concerns on X, stating, “We have noticed that work on the Jorhat-Majuli bridge over the Brahmaputra has come to a standstill since September 5. I have written to Hon’ble Union Minister Shri Nitin Gadkari Ji requesting his immediate intervention to ensure that we don’t miss the Dec 2025 completion date.”
The two-lane bridge, once completed, will significantly improve transportation in the region, benefiting both residents and boosting economic activities.
