Tihu: The opening ceremony of the Rongali Bihu celebrations at Bihutali in Pachim Barpit, Tihu, saw a mix of joy, culture, and thoughtful discussions. Dr. Diganta Biswa Sarma, a well-known writer and professor at Gauhati University, delivered the keynote speech at the public meeting.
Dr. Sarma said importance of respecting labour and developing skills.
The open meeting was presided over by Harendranath Haloi, president of the Rongali Bihu Celebration Committee. Eminent social worker and writer Jyotirmoy Sharma, and industrialist Ghulam Babu Kibria also spoke during the event, highlighting the importance of tradition, unity, and cultural values.
Nabajyoti Kalita, the secretary of the celebration committee, explained the purpose of the event. Cultural secretary Rupjyoti Kalita conducted the event.
The stage was inaugurated by retired teacher Sarbananda Kalita. This was followed by a vibrant cultural programme, opened by Pranab Bharali.
The open meeting also included the prize distribution ceremony for various sports and art competitions held during the three-day Bihu festival.
