Guwahati: A review meeting was held at the Directorate of Handlooms and Textiles, Guwahati, under the chairmanship of West Guwahati MLA and AMTRON Chairman Ramendra Narayan Kalita. The meeting focused on the progress of cluster development projects meant to support the socio-economic upliftment of local weavers.
Key officials including Director of Handlooms and Textiles Bidyut Dutta, Assistant Director Nishikanta Sharma, and retired Additional Director N.N. Rana Patgiri attended the meeting. Representatives of Borjhar Soru Agchia Buwa Kotha Samabai Samiti Ltd. were also present.
The officials reviewed the work done so far as per the Detailed Project Report (DPR), with discussions on fund utilization, timelines, and implementation challenges.
MLA Kalita announced that the second installment of project funds is expected by September 2025, aiming to complete all works by December 2025. He also stressed the importance of correcting any issues related to the distribution of looms and accessories. These matters will be resolved jointly by the implementing agency and the Directorate.
The meeting highlighted the cultural and economic importance of the handloom sector in West Guwahati. It ended with a strong commitment to continue supporting traditional weavers and ensuring sustainable growth in the sector.
