In a heartening display of civic engagement, students numbering over a hundred thousand from Assam’s Kamrup district took center stage in a captivating postcard campaign on Tuesday. Their mission? To inspire their parents to exercise their franchise in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

Dubbed ‘Ma-deutaloi votdanor ahbaan’ (an earnest plea to parents to vote), the initiative was orchestrated by the Kamrup election district as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) endeavor. The overarching goal: achieving an exemplary 100% voter turnout for the parliamentary elections, affirmed officials.

The poignant messages on the postcards, handwritten by students from classes VIII to XI across 526 educational institutions, resonated with a profound call to action. They implored their parents to embrace their civic duty, envisioning a more participatory democracy and a brighter tomorrow for all.

“As stewards of the future, we bear the responsibility of shaping the nation we bequeath to the generations to come. This campaign is a testament to our commitment to fostering robust voter engagement and nurturing the democratic ethos,” expressed Keerthi Jalli, the Kamrup District Commissioner and District Election Officer.

These heartfelt missives, stamped with the emblem of the Indian Postal Department, are set to be dispatched to individual households. Students are further urged to capture selfies with their parents and the postcards within a 15-day window, ensuring timely delivery before the polling day on May 7th.

Amidst the fervor of electoral anticipation, this student-led initiative stands as a testament to the enduring spirit of democracy and the power of collective action in shaping a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
