Morigaon: In a shocking case of animal abuse, Morigaon Police have apprehended Narayan Das, accused of sexually assaulting a female Labrador dog in a repeated and deliberate act of cruelty. The case came to light after disturbing footage was shared on the Facebook page “Rescue and Pets Guwahati” on May 4, sparking public outrage across Assam.

Speaking to ‘The Guwahati’ Morigaon Police said, Das was taken into custody on May 5. “He was apprehended and interrogated, following which he was formally arrested. He will be produced before the court on May 6,” said a senior police official.

Das, a businessman owning a restaurant, bar, and wine shop in Morigaon, had long been suspected of abusive behavior. Animal rights groups allege that he had been assaulting the dog for nearly a year. Following the viral video, NGOs including Purrpaws Foundation, Aloo Foundation, Anaajoree Foundation, and Animal Crime Control filed an FIR and rushed to Morigaon Police Station.

The police, along with the activists, rescued three dogs from the accused’s residence and sent them for medical examination. The accused’s son has also come forward with videos and testimonies alleging a history of violence against both animals and family members.
