Guwahati: In a swift operation, Gorchuk police arrested Jan Mohammad Ali alias Raju Ali (31) of Hajo within three hours of a murder that took place at the Silver Arcade Marketing Complex in Guwahati on May 12.
According to police, Mriganka Barman (26), a resident of Japarkuchi in Nalbari, was found critically injured in the basement of the commercial complex. He was immediately rushed to Private Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
The accused was identified and apprehended by 7:00 PM on the same day through a combination of technical surveillance and field investigation. Police also recovered the weapon used in the attack — a knife — along with a wooden stick from the crime scene.
Initial findings suggest that the motive behind the assault may have stemmed from a romantic dispute involving the victim, the accused, and a woman. Forensic experts have examined the crime scene for further evidence.
Speaking to The Guwahati, Gorchuk police confirmed that the accused was produced before the court on Tuesday. The investigation is ongoing, and a court order is awaited.
