Guwahati: On November 22, parts of Guwahati experienced light rainfall, signaling the arrival of the winter season. Despite the much-anticipated relief, November 2024 has been warmer than usual, with temperatures soaring up to 30°C on some days.
The rainfall, though light, caused waterlogging in several areas of Guwahati. Notably, the region under the Six Mile flyover was affected, raising concerns about the city’s drainage system. Such incidents highlight the need for better infrastructure to manage even minimal rainfall.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that Assam and other Northeastern states will experience light rainfall on November 24.
This year’s November has seen unusually high temperatures compared to previous years, leaving residents waiting for cooler winter days. With the recent rain, there is hope that winter may finally settle in soon.
The light rainfall in Guwahati not only hints at the onset of winter but also emphasizes the need for better urban planning to avoid waterlogging.
