Guwahati: Assam celebrated Lachit Diwas with pride, honoring the bravery of Lachit Borphukan, the legendary General of the Ahom Kingdom. Earlier this year, in March 2024, the Prime Minister unveiled a 125-foot-high statue of Lachit Borphukan, paying tribute to his extraordinary courage.
To mark this special day, Cairn launched the campaign “Preserving Culture: Promoting Self-Reliance.” This initiative aims to connect Assam’s youth with their rich cultural heritage through art, literature, and tradition.
The campaign began with painting competitions held in collaboration with Art Village, Nagaon, and Dreams School of Art, Guwahati. Around 200 students participated, creating colorful artworks inspired by Lachit Borphukan’s heroic legacy. The competition not only showcased their talent but also instilled pride in Assam’s cultural heritage.
Mitali Bhattacharjee, Founder-in-Charge of Dreams School of Art, expressed her gratitude: “We thank Cairn for supporting young talent through this competition. Such efforts inspire the artists of tomorrow.”
Sujit Das, Manuscript Artist and Principal of Jyoti Art School, emphasized the importance of connecting children with their roots: “The youth are the future of Assam. When culture and development grow together, progress becomes unstoppable.”
The event was attended by renowned artists, including Mayur Phukan (Nowgong Kala Niketan), Smriti Hazarika (Jyoti Art School), and history teacher Pradip Kumar Goswami (Motiram Bora H.S. Balika Vidyapith). They motivated the young participants with their guidance and expertise.
