Guwahati: Jansankhya Samadhan Foundation (JSF) Assam Advocates for Population Control Law on World Population DayGuwahati – On the occasion of World Population Day, the Jansankhya Samadhan Foundation (JSF) Assam State Committee has submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India, advocating for a strict population control law. The memorandum was sent through the District Commissioner of Kamrup (Mahanagar) at the District Commissioner’s Office in Hengerabari, Guwahati, on Thursday, July 11, 2024.
As part of a nationwide program, over 400 memorandums were submitted in 23 states, emphasizing the urgent need for a population control law. JSF activists highlighted that the organization has been campaigning for this cause for more than a decade under the leadership of its National President, Anil Choudhury, and with guidance from Dr. Indresh Kumar, National Executive Member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and Chief Patron of JSF.

The memorandum notes that on August 9, 2018, a joint delegation from JSF and Parliament met with the President of India, submitting a petition signed by 125 MPs supporting a population control law. Additionally, a nationwide mass signature campaign collected over 10 million signatures, which were presented to the Prime Minister’s Office in a massive rally from Ghaziabad to Delhi on October 29 last year. Assam JSF President Pankaj Talukdar, along with Organizing Secretary Mrinal Goswami, Vice President Ranjan Kumar Medhi, General Secretary Anirban Goswami, Parag Deka, and JSF Assam Mahila Shakti member Jhoola Sarma, handed over the memorandum to the District Commissioner. Talukdar expressed optimism that the Prime Minister would enact a strict population control law at the beginning of his third term.
