Guwahati: Sports Authority of India Regional Centre Guwahati, in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, organised a special edition of the “Sundays on Cycle” initiative in Guwahati on Sunday to celebrate India being selected as the host nation for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
The event was held at IIT Guwahati as part of the 75th edition of Fit India Sundays on Cycle, which was organised simultaneously at more than 8,000 locations across the country on May 24.
Raksha Khadse attended the programme as the chief guest. Olympian archer Jayanta Talukdar, Commonwealth Games medallist Sushila Devi Likmabam and IIT Guwahati Director Devendra Jalihal were also present.
Addressing the gathering, Raksha Khadse said initiatives like Sundays on Cycle help promote fitness and sports culture among the youth. She expressed confidence in India’s ability to successfully host the Commonwealth Games in 2030.
Jayanta Talukdar and Sushila Devi interacted with participants during the event and encouraged young people to take up sports seriously and work with dedication.
A Commonwealth Games-themed exhibition was also organised, showcasing India’s sporting achievements, sports infrastructure growth and progress under the Khelo India programme.
As part of the celebrations, SAI Guwahati also organised a Commonwealth Games Open Quiz on social media and a drawing competition in schools across Guwahati. Winners of the competitions were felicitated during the programme.
