GMC Fines Fish and Meat Vendors for Dirty Practices

Guwahati: The Gauhati Municipal Corporation’s (GMC) veterinary department has been taking action against vendors selling fish and meat in dirty conditions. Working with the Enforcement Department and the Guwahati City Police, they conducted raids in several markets around the city.

On Wednesday, they checked shops in Ganeshguri Market, Dispur Super Market, Jatia, Kahilipara, Odalbakara, Lalganesh, Jyotikuchi, Lokhra Chariali, and Narakasur market. They looked at 55 fish and meat shops and found many not keeping things clean.

The team fined these vendors a total of Rs. 35,500. They also told the shop owners to keep their shops clean and follow the rules when selling fish and meat in the future.

Dr. Kailash Chandra Chamua, a senior veterinary officer, said the corporation will keep checking and fining vendors who do not follow the rules. “We will continue to take action against those selling food in dirty conditions,” he said.

This effort aims to make sure that people in Guwahati get safe and clean food.
