Boko, 24 January: National Highway 17 is now changing to a death trap. Road accidents kill and injure lots of people on this highway under the Boko Police Station area in Assam’s Kamrup (rural) district.

A fierce accident happened early in the morning around 3.30 am on january 24, when a Goalpara bound Dumper (AS 01 NC 9882) face to face collided with a truck (AS 01 JC 3904) coming from the opposite direction. Due to the accident, both truck drivers were stuck in their seats and then trucks were gutted on fire and both truck drivers died of burns.

Chandan Sharma, neighbour of the incident site, said that a Guwahati bound Dumper had parked on the roadside to take rest and in the meantime, the Goalpara bound Dumper and the other truck collided face to face.

Sharma also suspected that the incident happened only because the Guwahati bound truck was trying to overtake the other parked Tata Dumper.

Sharma also added that after the incident he immediately called the police and Boko Police responded quickly.

Police sources said that the truck driver Bhadreswar Patgiri from Dudhnai in Goalpara district and the Tata Dumper’s driver name is Krishna Das from Bamunigaon in Kamrup district.
