Guwahati: The Crime Branch conducted a raid in the Panbazar area following a complaint lodged by Gaurav Tiwari, the authorized representative of Titan Company Ltd. The complaint highlighted the unauthorized selling, manufacturing, and distribution of counterfeit brand products of Titan watches, including Sonata, Titan, and Fastrack.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Crime Branch conducted the raid in several shops and godowns suspected to be involved in the illicit trade. The targeted locations included Bardhan Time on SS Road, Choudhury Watch on Tip Top Gali, Lakhtokia.

During the search and raid operation, the authorities managed to apprehend six individuals believed to be part of the counterfeit watch racket. The arrested individuals were identified as Kishore Choudhary (49), Ranjit Paul (50), Ranjit Sutradhar, Pritam Roy (23), Sujit Das (34), and Rupak Baidya (34). However, the owner of Bardhan Time, Biplab Bardhan, was found absent during the raid, and authorities are making efforts to apprehend him.
The seizure during the raid was substantial, with 1,287 duplicate and counterfeit watches confiscated from Bardhan Time and 2,043 from Choudhary Watch.

In response to the operation, the Crime Branch has registered a case at Crime Branch Police Station, filing charges under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code, read with Sections 63 and 65 of the Indian Copyright Act, and Sections 103 and 104 of the Trademark Act. Legal action is now being initiated against the accused persons.
