CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Reviews Beautification and Infrastructure Projects in Sivasagar
Sivasagar: Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday visited the historic Rang Ghar, an 18th-century Ahom royal sports pavilion in Sivasagar, to inspect the ongoing beautification project aimed at preserving the iconic monument and transforming it into a global tourist attraction.
Highlighting the importance of preserving Assam’s heritage, the Chief Minister said the project will enhance the architectural beauty of Rang Ghar, which is believed to be Asia’s first amphitheatre. He informed that the beautification work is moving steadily and is expected to be completed within 16 to 18 months.
Dr. Sarma also reviewed other major projects in Sivasagar, including:
- A proposal for RCC-lined covered canals to solve the issue of rainwater accumulation in the town.
- Ongoing construction of the Sivasagar Medical College and Sivasagar Cancer Care Hospital at Demow, which are being developed as state-of-the-art healthcare institutions.
He directed officials to ensure timely and quality completion of these key projects to strengthen healthcare infrastructure in the region.
Additionally, the Chief Minister inspected the progress of the Harmatigarh Bridge over the Dikhow River, which once completed, will improve transportation and connectivity in the district.
Dr. Sarma also visited Bhatiapara-Barichuk, the site of the recent rig explosion at ONGC’s Rudrasagar oil field. He instructed ONGC and the district administration to ensure adequate compensation to the affected families and praised the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, ONGC officials, and locals for their swift response and cooperation during the gas leak incident.
He was accompanied by Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, MLAs Susanta Borgohain, Taranga Gogoi, Akhil Gogoi, and other senior officials during the visit.
