Guwahati: Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel on Wednessday submitted the list of newly elected members of the Assam Legislative Assembly to Lakshman Prasad Acharya for the formal constitution of the new Assembly following the completion of the 2026 Assam Assembly elections. The submission was made in the presence of representatives from the Election Commission of India.
According to the final results, the BJP-led NDA alliance secured a massive victory with 102 seats in the 126-member Assembly. The Bharatiya Janata Party won 82 seats, while its allies Asom Gana Parishad and Bodoland People’s Front secured 10 seats each.
On the other hand, the Congress-led alliance won 21 seats. The Indian National Congress secured 19 seats, while Raijor Dal won 2 seats. The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) won 2 seats and the All India Trinamool Congress secured 1 seat. The Chief Electoral Officer thanked the voters of Assam for participating actively in the democratic process and praised officials and staff involved in conducting the elections peacefully and transparently. He also expressed gratitude to district election officials, polling and counting personnel, security forces, Assam Police, CAPFs, government departments, media organisations, political parties, civil society groups and SVEEP teams for their support and coordination during the election process.
The CEO said the successful completion of the elections reflects Assam’s strong commitment to democracy and constitutional values.
