New Delhi: BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi caused a big debate in the Rajya Sabha by calling Dhubri district in Assam a “mini Bangladesh.”
He made this comment while talking about fake voters and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).
Trivedi said the opposition always talks about fake voters but does not support the NRC. “Before talking about fake voters, they should check if all citizens are real. Why don’t they agree to NRC? It will solve the problem,” he said.
He also connected this to the recent Rajya Sabha elections, where Congress leader Rakibul Hussain won in Dhubri by over 10 lakh votes. Trivedi said that illegal immigrants affect the elections, which is why the NRC is not completed.
“Our friends from Assam say Dhubri is like a mini Bangladesh. That’s why NRC is not done. But they still talk about fake voters,” he added.
