Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma clarified that liquor shops and bars will not operate 24/7 in the state.
The clarification comes after widespread discussions on social media, where many believed that bars and wine shops would remain open till 2 AM under the new rule allowing extended business hours.
“Now, shops can operate 24/7 in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and Silchar, with extended timings in other areas, ensuring worker rights and convenience,” CM Sarma said in a statement. However, he made it clear that this decision does not apply to liquor shops and bars.
The statement puts an end to speculation and confirms that alcohol sales will continue as per existing regulations in Assam.
