Guwahati: Following the announcement of the Assam Assembly election results, the BJP-led alliance has clearly established its dominance in Guwahati. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) won all five key constituencies in the city, leaving the opposition far behind.
A key highlight of this election is the victory of several new faces, indicating the rise of new leadership in city politics.
In Jalukbari, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma secured a massive victory, once again proving his strong support base. In Dispur, BJP candidate Pradyut Bordoloi won comfortably against the Congress. In Guwahati Central, BJP’s Bijoy Kumar Gupta also registered an easy win. Similarly, in New Guwahati, Diplu Ranjan Sarma defeated the Congress candidate and retained the seat for the party.
Meanwhile, in Dimoria, AGP candidate Dr. Tapan Das won by a big margin, strengthening the party’s position in the region.
The results show that voters in Guwahati have supported development, stability, and new leadership. The win of new candidates also signals a shift towards fresh ideas in urban politics.
For the opposition, the outcome is a major setback, as they failed to maintain their presence in the city.
